Bavarian Order of Merit for Oliver T. Keppler
Oliver T. Keppler is one of the awardees of the 2022 Bavarian Order of Merit. The renowned virologist and director at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute for Hygiene and Medical Microbiology has, according to Mr. Söder's laudation, helped to fight against the spread of the disease since the beginning of the corona pandemic, among other things as an advisor to the Bavarian state government. "It is a great honour to support Bavaria and the people of Bavaria in the corona virus pandemic and to be awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit for this by the Bavarian Minister President. In addition to gratitude and joy, I also feel this honour as an incentive and responsibility to continue on this path," Professor Keppler is pleased about the award of the Order.
The Bavarian Order of Merit has been awarded every year since 1957 by the Minister President as a sign of honourable and grateful recognition for outstanding services to the State of Bavaria and the Bavarian people. It symbolises the outstanding commitment and extraordinary dedication of the citizens of Bavaria to the community. The number of order holders shall not exceed 2,000. In 2022, a total of 47 people were honoured, including three LMU scientists.
