2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

They cracked the code for proteins' amazing structures

09.10.2024

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024 was awarded with one half to David Baker “for computational protein design” and the other half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper “for protein structure prediction”. Baker, from the University of Washington, was recognized for his pioneering work in de novo protein design using computational methods. Meanwhile, Hassabis and Jumper, key figures behind DeepMind’s AlphaFold, were honored for their development of AI-based systems capable of predicting protein structures with unprecedented accuracy. This work has transformed biochemistry, accelerating drug discovery, and advancing our understanding of biological processes.
