Bayer Early Excellence in Science Award

Julian Stingele, Professor for Cellular Biochemistry at the LMU Gene Center, is one of the winners of the Bayer Early Excellence in Science Award.

The international Bayer Early Excellence in Science Award is awarded by the Bayer foundation to excellent young scientists and physicians in the early stages of their academic and clinical research careers. The selection is made on the basis of the originality and quality of candidates’ research and the significance of this work for the respective award category. Julian Stingele wins the "Biology" category of the Bayer Early Excellence in Science Award.

Julian's research focusses on genome maintenance and he investigates cellular mechanisms that resolve DNA-protein crosslinks to restore cellular viability and replication of damaged DNA. The results of his research help us understand cancer development and cellular ageing and may one day contribute to make chemotherapies more effective.

Before establishing his own group at the Gene Center as a tenure-track professor in 2017, Julian worked with Stefan Jentsch at the MPI for Biochemistry in Martinsried and with Simon Boulton at the Francis Crick Institute in London. His research is supported by an ERC starting grant and a development award by the Alfried-Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation.

The Bayer Early Excellence in Science Award (10.000 €) will be awarded on October, 28th at the Bayer Foundation Day in Leverkusen.
