Marcia de Almeida Monteiro Melo Ferraz, who has recently joined the Gene Center as an independent group leader, has been appointed W2 Professor of Clinical-Experimental Reproductive Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Marcia Ferraz's research area in developmental cell biology is focussed on the enhancement of the efficacy of the crucial first step in artificial reproduction technologies – in-vitro fertilization. In 2020, Marcia received the Sofja Kovalevskaja Award to support her research and started her independent research group at the Gene Center in February 2021. Even after her appointment, she and her group will continue their research at the Gene Center, as she explained: "I cannot leave such an amazing Center with this great network of scientists!"
Before joining the Gene Center, Marcia was postdoctoral researcher at the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Virginia, USA.
