Campus

GENZENTRUM 1243 The two campuses Grosshadern and Martinsried together form the Lifescience Campus Grosshadern/Martinsried which is a hotspot of life science research and one of Europe’s most important biotech regions. It exhibits a concentration of internationally renowned research institutions which is unique in Europe. Researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and the Faculty of Biology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, the Max-Planck-Institutes for Biochemistry and Neurobiology as well as from the Helmholtz Center work in close proximity. In addition to these research institutions, the campus is home to several clinical institutes of the Faculty of Medicine as well as the LMU's University Hospital, integrating cutting-edge research with state-of-the-art medical care. Beyond that, the Innovation and Start-Up Center for Biotechnology (IZB) and a number of small and large biotechnology companies are also located here.

The Gene Center Munich and the BioSysM as parts of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy are right in the center of this lively campus. The advantages are obvious: all research facilities can be reached on foot in no more than 20 minutes. The short distances offer ideal conditions for networking activities, so that even the daily lunch can be combined with the exchange of new ideas for research projects with neighbouring colleagues. The proximity to the Innovation and Start-Up Center facilitates the spin-off of promising ideas. As there are several childcare facilities on campus, family life can easily be balanced with work. The campus Grosshadern is easy to reach by underground line U6, which connects it with Munich city center.

Grosshadern Campus

Together with the Departments of Chemistry and Pharmacy (Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy), the Center for Neuropathology and Prion Research, the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research and the University Hospital Grosshadern, the Gene Center and BioSysM form the Grosshadern Campus of the LMU in the south-west of Munich. The campus also hosts a Helmholtz Center Munich Institute. The Grosshadern Campus is part of the city of Munich, and borders directly on the municipality of Martinsried.
